THERE'S ROOM FOR YOU

Have you ever felt like God was calling you to do something, but you did not want to obey because you felt like there were thousands of other people already doing it? Maybe you even feel like there’s no purpose of you being here. Those thoughts may begin when you walk into a room full of women doing “big things for God,” or when you’re on social media. But, I’m here to remind you that there’s room for you. Let’s dig into the Word:

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. - 1 Corinthians 12:12-21, 27

The Church, which is the body of Christ, is not just made of one person. It is made of many. Just because you are not doing the work your sister in Christ may be doing, doesn’t make you less than. And just because she seems to be “making a big impact,” doesn’t mean God doesn’t desire to work through you. The one you may reach is just as important to Him.

WHY SHOULD I?

You might feel led to start a blog, write a book, or start a small group, but you may be thinking, “Well, somebody else is already doing that. So, what’s the purpose of me doing it?” This is going to be a tough pill to swallow, but when you are more focused on yourself, you are being prideful. (Trust me, I can relate, big time.) When we are feeling led by the Spirit of God to do something, know that it is for His glory. We must respond in obedience. You do not know who the Lord wants to reach through you. Remember, you are a vessel. God doesn’t “need” us to do things, but He chooses to use us. I’m reminded of the story of Moses. God was choosing to use Him to rescue the Israelites from Egypt, but Moses responded with excuse after excuse and to be honest, he was focusing on himself instead of who God was. I know at times, I can be just like Moses giving the Lord excuse after excuse. But, we should be humbled and thankful that despite our brokenness, the Lord wants to use us for His glory.

Let’s get back to what the Lord may be calling you to do. I gave the example of someone thinking about what the purpose of them starting a blog or writing a book was when there are thousands of others doing the same thing. They might feel like it is useless. But, as you can see in the Scripture above, we all play different roles in the Church. So if the Lord wants you to do one of those things, know that it will be different from what everyone else has done or is doing. He does not create duplicates. He creates us all unique.

THERE’S ROOM FOR YOU

I hope you are encouraged and humbled by the fact that the Lord wants to use you. Do not disqualify yourself because of pride or lies of the enemy. We all have something different to bring to the table. I know this may sound silly, but, think about a potluck. Not everyone brings the same thing (unless you purchased a bag of chips or a drink from the store! haha). Everyone is going to bring their best dish. And odds are, even if two people brought the same dish, they aren’t going to taste the same. So, whatever it is that the Lord is calling you to do, I pray that you respond in obedience. No matter how many bloggers or authors are out there, the Lord wants to use you, too.

*If you are not familiar with the story of Moses, you can read it in Exodus 3:4-14; 4:13-16.

Please note: I am not limiting the Lord only calling people to be bloggers or authors. Those were just two examples I wanted to give.
